What Would Khaleesi Wear?: Wedding Edition Part 1
When my cousin asked me to be her bridesmaid last September, I was deep in “there’s-7-whole-months-until-season-2-GoT” depression. I decided it’d be fun to use bridesmaid duty as a way to basically keep me occupied until Game of Thrones started back up.
So, what better way to keep the GoT spirit alive than to create a Khaleesi-inspired bridesmaid dress?
1. the inspiration: Marchesa 2010 Lavender Mesh and Lace Bodice Dress on Taylor Swift-Yes, this dress really does embody the flowy, womanly purple dresses we saw on Daenerys on Season 1.
2. the constrictions: I don’t even know how much that Marchesa dress costs, but I’m positive I can’t afford it. Not even going to look it up. Also, my cousin said I could pick any dress as long as it was in the color “merlot”, from dessy, and NOT long. Budget, color, length.
3. the dress: Dessy Collection Style 2846- In order to recreate the look, you can buy any dress (not necessarily the one I chose). BUT the dress should be chiffon or another light, flowy fabric. It should also be sweetheart cut, no straps, and simple. If you’re going to put lace on it, you don’t want anything else (like huge flower belts, etc) to distract from those details.
4. the plan: *shorten dress->fishtail hem (high in the front, lower in the back)
*add nude-colored mesh->measurements and sewing
*dye and apply lace->choose appliques, lay out design, add to mesh
